The Experience

More than just a date, Day of the Dead is a celebration of memory: the monumental altar of the dead is crowned with the Catrina (heiress to José Guadalupe Posada's iconic figure) among candles, little skulls, pan de muerto (bread of the dead), and cempasúchil (marigold) flowers. And if you want to experience it firsthand, come to the Festival Día de Muertos y Bazar Tlatelolco 2026, from October 23 to November 2 at Jardín de Santiago, Tlatelolco, featuring monumental offerings, catrinas, live music, and traditional cuisine. Let's celebrate Day of the Dead together.

About the Festival

In the heart of Jardín de Santiago, just a few steps from the Plaza de las Tres Culturas, stands a 6-meter-tall Monumental Catrina crowning an altar of the dead, inside a Roman-style temple illuminated at night. All around it, the entire park fills with magic: every planter is a beautiful Day of the Dead scene made of papier-mâché cardboard (cartonería), with skulls and alebrijes from our magical Mexico crafted by master cartoneros (papier-mâché artisans). It's a huge, pet-friendly garden, like Chapultepec Forest: bring your little dog in costume and take photos among the planters. And as a historic finishing touch, the 16th-century atrial cross (standing since the old Convent of Tlatelolco) is covered with thousands of cempasúchil flowers. Completing the evening are a clothing and crafts bazaar, traditional snacks such as tamales, pan de muerto, atole, and hot chocolate, plus a daily show for children and adults. 100% family-friendly, alcohol-free, and pet-friendly. Cash and cards accepted. Organized by Unidos por Tlatelolco and Fundación Roberto G. Rivera.
